Some want the communal experience, to sit and linger, or work remotely against the cacophony of coffee drinking and chatter.

Mostly it's a great artisanal coffee drink that draws in locals to some of the neighborhood coffee shops in Suffolk County.

These five stand out.

Tate's Bake Shop, 43 North Sea Rd., Southampton:  No list would be complete without including this quaint cottage that sells the famous cookies, cakes, and other baked treats. An employee at the shop told DailyVoice their customers also go in for espresso, cappuccino, and other coffee beverages to enjoy at one of the tables on the patio.

"This is a quaint shop," said a Google review from two weeks ago.

The same person described Tate's cookies as "think, crispy, and tasty" and said that her husband "enjoys getting his coffee and sitting right outside in what reminds me of an English garden patio."

Cyrus: Chai & Coffee Company, 1 Railroad Plaza, Bay Shore: Several responses on Facebook to Daily Voice asking where to get great coffee made this first on the list. It's directly across from the platform at the train station.

"I have been to many of Long Island's coffee house's, they can't even touch Cyrus, professional staff (classy) organic coffee, amazing selection!!! a real coffee house!Quality coffee and nice, knowledgeable staff. Huge plus that they always have non-dairy milk. I love how they have their tea and coffee beans out for customers to smell. They are all so unique and fragrant. You have to try their Turkey blend!

Bay Shore Bean, 47 E. Main St., Bay Shore: Someone on Google called this shop "home away from home. The perfect cute and cozy spot to take time for yourself, catch up with loved ones, or get work done. Amazing quality drinks and sweets for an amazing price.

Jack Jack's Coffeehouse: 223 Deer Park Ave., Babylon: Reviews mention "robust" coffee flavor and excellent food.

"Great quality coffee, and fantastic food. My oat-milk cortado was perfectly balanced and had a great robust flavor. The egg sandwich I had was fresh, hot, and quite honestly one of the best I've had - and I consider myself an amateur foodie. Lightly crispy bacon, at least two types of cheese, soft pretzel croissant - no complaints at all. Highly recommended."

Roast Coffee & Tea Trading Co., 41 E. Main St, Patchogue: This cozy space has brick walls, varied coffee drinks, and jazz playing.

"Excellent coffee, seating, and friendly staff. Well designed shop with comfortable seating. The Vanilla Honeysuckle Latte with Oat Milk I had was amazing. My friend's Iced Matcha Latte was great," one of the hundreds of Google reviews said.
